Perhaps fewer personal stories and more links to the literature. Have to agree with those criticisms. As to the images appearing twice, I just didn't want to make people go back to earlier spots in the book. I'm working on a new book, this one focused on the individual and how he/she might get the most out of visits to an art museum.

Again, thanks! skilletheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02244857307520878277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5432053566386803286.post-24531551842311699362014-07-18T01:35:05.746+10:002014-07-18T01:35:05.746+10:00Thank you for sharing this Julian! I'll be looking forward to visit your page again and for your other posts as well. I had so much fun reading and of course to have additional learnings from you with this blog. Kudos! Thank you so much for sharing with us an information about this one. This is a good read!
Based on what I have read on a website, Tthe Egyptian Museum owns three different versions of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, including the most ancient copy known. An integral illustrated version and the personal copy of the First Royal Architect Kha, found by Schiaparelli in 1906 are normally shown to the public. On more than one occasion the director of the Museum was asked to remove the two copies of the book on display and stock them in a deep and dark basement, always for strictly esoteric reasons (as the papyrus emanates "negative energy"). At the time of writing, none of these requests appears to have been put into practice.
Make the most of your precious Italy vacation time - plan ahead. Weekend in Italy brings you access to all of the best Milan museums, tours, and even guaranteed tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. Figure out all the details now before you get there and you’ll get to see and enjoy so much more! That’s the idea behind our site.

turin museums ticketsAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15555504425067455389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5432053566386803286.post-6975048122758656412012-09-26T17:37:14.724+10:002012-09-26T17:37:14.724+10:00Hi Liam,

There are absolutely museum leaders who are already on board with the importance of technology in the museum context. However, there are still relatively few people from the museum tech sector involved in museums at the strategic level. All too often, tech work is seen as an adjunct to core museum work, but is not built in the to museum at the organisational or institutional level. It is something that Seb Chan has recently touched on over at his blog - http://www.freshandnew.org/2012/03/museums-making-digital-shift/

Ed Rodley, too, has been addressing this issue, and his views might be of interest.
https://exhibitdev.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/looking-for-leadership-is-a-wicked-problem/

I think the issue is not whether technologists are necessarily leaders themselves, but whether they are cast in executive level positions within institutions - as Rob himself has been - in order to help ensure that the strategic direction of the institution includes technology.Suse Cairnshttp://museumgeek.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5432053566386803286.post-35694518017090939892012-01-10T14:20:44.539+11:002012-01-10T14:20:44.539+11:00I am so glad you are bringing this to light. Needless to say the papers were falling and crumbling apart in my hands, and some of the items had suffered mold and mildew (*some even discarded instead of saved over the years) and I was appalled. It seems that many universities or libraries WANT or will ACCEPT donated collections but do not have the temperature control, budget, or help to make sure that these records (or collections, whatever they may be) will exist in ten years.Cindyhttp://retrochalet.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5432053566386803286.post-36823401810052418832012-01-04T19:40:10.068+11:002012-01-04T19:40:10.068+11:00Pretty nice post. Some institutions - especially in the UK - want curators as stagemanagers for their corporate lunch / gift shop revue shows. Plus, the humourless, middle class, tickbox mentality of our state funders - HLF for example - stifles originality, playfulness and genuine engagement.

But curators have the POWER! We whisper the story into the audiences' ear. We are also the referees - it ain't a goal unless we call it. Curators (in my view) need to stop "treading delicately..in equal measure" and start kicking out the jams and setting audiences on fire. They'll only want more of it when the get it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5432053566386803286.post-68251950307734417502011-02-21T19:44:18.017+11:002011-02-21T19:44:18.017+11:00Hi Julian.
